KMIT (Mitchell) – Mitchell’s Post 18 varsity baseball team will resume operations immediately following a Wednesday morning Mitchell Baseball Association Board meeting. The decision was in response to a statement released by South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley regarding the investigation into allegations involving the Mitchell American Legion Baseball program. Jackley’s statement confirmed that the State Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a series of complaints surrounding the Mitchell baseball program. Jackley added that no one has been charged as of yet. The statement also said that it hoped that the work by law enforcement does not unnecessarily interfere with the opportunity for those team members who have worked hard to continue participation in the baseball program. Jackley says he hopes that authorities in charge have protections in place. The Mitchell Post 18 baseball season was suspended last month following allegations of player misconduct. No other details have been made public. Mitchell’s Post 18 team has not played since June 20th.
This does NOT however include the game scheduled for Wednesday between Pierre and Mitchell. The game was already canceled and decision would not be reversed.
