Post 8 Finishes Gopher Classic with Near Comeback

For the second straight day, Pierre Post 8 trailed heading into the seventh and would score multiple runs, this time the Eights would fall 7-5 to Middleton, Wisconsin to end its tournament.

Post 8 would score 26 runs on Saturday including a 10 run seventh inning to come back against Lakeville North. Then in its final game of the weekend, Pierre trailed 7-1 heading into the seventh inning before making another comeback bid, this time falling just short. Carter Sanderson would double home two runs with the bases loaded, but a fielding error allowed Ridge Leimbach and him to score to pull the game within 7-5. But the Eights just didn’t have enough in the tank to get complete the comeback and would go 2-3 in the tournament. Connor Bruce would drive in the first run for Pierre who trailed 3-0 after one complete inning and had just one scoreless inning as Middleton would score a run in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings. Matthew Coverdale would be tagged with the loss giving up six runs, all earned on four hits, eight walks and two strikeouts. Matt Hanson would get the final three outs, but gave up a run on two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Pierre is now 8-23 on the season and has just a couple more doubleheaders left in the season. As of now, the game between Mitchell and Pierre on Wednesday has not been officially canceled, but it is still in question. If Mitchell is still unable to play, Pierre would then host Bismarck in its next game on Thursday. The Eights will travel to Brandon Valley on Saturday to close the regular season in a doubleheader. The remaining Post 8 games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
