Capitol City Little League Advances to State Tournament

The Capitol City Little League All Stars will be headed back to the South Dakota state tournament going 1-1 this weekend beating Brandon Valley and falling to Sioux Falls.

Pierre would defeat Brandon Valley on Friday with a 3-0 victory as Weston Terwilliger would drive in the game’s first run with an RBI hit by pitch in the first inning. It was all that Tripp Lindekugel would need on the mound as he would go five and a third innings allowing just two hits, one walk and 14 strikeouts while Jaylen Keyes would get the final two outs for the win. Lindekugel would go 2-3 with a double and two RBIs scoring Latrelle Rodriguez in the third and Keyes in the sixth. Rodriguez and Brogan Kienholz would also double in the game. Bennett Heiss had the other of the five hits for Pierre.

It was a reversal in game two for Pierre as Sioux Falls Little League would win 3-0 on Saturday. Tace Palecek and Lindekugel would each double and Pierre had nine hits overall, but couldn’t score a run Luke Deal and Heiss each had two hits in the loss. Terwilliger would go two innings allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and strikeout. Ben Martinec would finish off the last three innings giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.

At 1-1 Pierre had to wait to see what would happen between Sioux Falls and Brandon Valley to know if they would advance to the state tournament or not. With a Sioux Falls win on Sunday, Capitol City League League will be back in the state tournament in 2023. The state tournament will be in Sioux Falls July 20-23.
