Eights Drop First Game at Gopher Classic

Pierre Post 8 would score the first run of the game to open up the Gopher Classic on Friday against Omaha Skutt, Nebraska, but would drop the game 9-1 in five innings.

Going with the eight run rule after five innings, Omaha Skutt would score a run in the bottom half of the inning to defeat the Eights with the help of a six run second inning. Matthew Coverdale would drive in the game’s first run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first, but it was all the Eights were able to score. Pierre had six hits, all coming from its top four hitters as Jonny Lyons and Ridge Leimbach each had two hits. Leimbach would be tagged for the loss giving up eight runs, six earned on four hits, seven walks and hitting two batters. Pierre allowed just five hits in the game in total, outhitting another team but dropping the game.

Post 8 will face Mankato National, Minnesota in their first Gopher Classic Game at 4:30 this afternoon from Elko, Minnesota.
