Pierre Post 8 Begins 2023 Gopher Classic

Over the next three days, Pierre Post 8 will play five games at the 2023 Gopher Classic playing in the Lakeville North Pool, just south of the Twin Cities.

The Eights will play two games both Friday and Saturday, before just a single game on Sunday. Only the pool winners will move on to the Round of 16 and quarterfinals on Monday before the semifinals and championship will be on Tuesday. Pierre would have to win the pool to play again on Monday, which the last time it happened was back in 2018. Post 8 will play teams from Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin in this year’s pool. The Gopher Classic is the one of the premier American Legion tournaments in the country for the Upper Midwest. Usually multiple teams will be playing in the regional tournaments and have a team playing in the American Legion World Series.

Pierre will play both Omaha Skutt, Nebraska and Mankato National, Minnesota on Friday. The Eights have first pitch at 11:30 and 4:30. Then on Saturday, Pierre will play the first two games at 9:00 and 11:30 before playing the 9:00 game Sunday morning. A reminder that there will be not be any broadcasts of the Gopher Classic games this weekend. KCCR’s next broadcast will be next either Wednesday or Thursday, with the Mitchell game on Wednesday, still in question.
