Drought Conditions Continue Slow Improvement Across Central South Dakota

PIERRE — More shots of rain continue improving drought conditions in western and central South Dakota. Jones County is the latest to see large areas of no drought added this week. No drought went from zero to 31-percent this week. Abnormally dry areas dropped from 100 to 68-percent and moderate drought dropped from 14 to 3-percent. No drought areas grew slightly in Stanley County too. No drought increased two-percent to 33-percent while abnormally dry areas fell two-percent. Moderate drought fell point-two percent. Dewey County is largely abnormally dry at 69-percent with 30-percent drought-free. Moderate drought remains in parts of Mellette, Tripp, Lyman, Hughes, Buffalo, Hand and Hyde Counties. Severe drought is currently set up Brule, Buffalo and eastern Lyman County. The worst drought remains extreme drought in parts of Davison, Douglas, Charles Mix, Bon Homme and Hutchinson Counties.
