Fort Pierre is encouraging people visiting for Independence Day weekend activities to come early and stay late to avoid traffic headaches. Egress routes from Fort Pierre include using Verendrye Drive or Sale Barn Road to take Highway 1806 north around the Oahe Dam to get back to Pierre. Head-to-head traffic will remain in place over the current bridge until the end of the 2023 construction season. The new bridge should be ready for traffic in the summer of 2024.
