Pierre Post 8 Earns Split with Rapid City Post 22

It would be another tale of two games as Pierre Post 8 would get a split with Rapid City Post 22 on Wednesday falling in game one 16-5, but winning game two 12-9.

In game one, Pierre would open the game with a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning as the Eights would get an RBI single from Carter Sanderson and a two RBI double from Cooper Terwilliger. However, a five run inning on five hits, four being extra base hits gave Post 22 their first lead and which they would hold onto it through the first game. Harrison Good and Alex Dietrich would lead off the third inning hitting back-to-back solo homers to extend the lead to 7-3. Spencer Easland would double home a run and Jonny Lyons hit a sacrifice fly to pull Pierre within 9-5 in the fourth, but a six run sixth inning extended the lead for Post 22 to 16-5 and the Eights were unable to score ending the game after six by 10-run rule.

In the second game the Hardhats would open up the first inning score twice and trying to create doubt in Post 8 again. However, Pierre would answer with its first four run inning as Jett Zabel would get an RBI double, Jonny Lyons would reach on an error to tie the game, Sanderson would drive in the go-ahead run with a double and then scored on a wild pitch. Post 8 would add a second four run inning in the second as Zabel had another RBI single followed by a Lyons RBI single and a Matthew Coverdale two RBI double to give the Eights a comfortable 8-2 lead. Rapid City would get three runs back in the third, but after being scoreless the next three innings, Pierre would add another four runs in the bottom of the sixth as Sanderson would get an RBI single and two more runs would score on the error before Coverdale would give the Eights a 12-5 advantage with an RBI single. Zabel would go for five and 2/3 innings before Matt Hanson would get the final four outs and work around a seventh inning grand slam by Dietrich to record the four out save.

Post 8 is now 6-20 on the season and 5-17 in South Dakota games. Pierre will be off until the Gopher Classic which will be played Friday-Sunday July 7-9.
