It would be a game to forget in the first game as Pierre Post 8 would lose 17-7 to Huron before coming back and winning game two 5-4 to split with Post 7.
Pierre would take a 1-0 lead with an RBI from Carter Sanderson in the bottom of the first in game one, but Huron would strike for five runs in the second to take the lead. Pierre would answer with a four run bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5 as Sanderson drove in his second run of the game and Cooper Terwilliger on a fielder’s choice tying the game. However, Huron scored another three runs in the fourth and then added nine in the sixth as they poured it on taking advantage of eight unearned runs in the ballgame. Jonathan Peterson would get four hits and Logan Leyendecker would drive in three runs along with Brady Feenstra.
In the second game, Ridge Leimbach was sharp to start getting four shutout innings. The Eights would steal a run on a throwing error and Spencer Easland driving in the second run in the second inning as the Eights would lead 2-0 through four. But a three run fifth gave Huron the lead, all charged to Leimbach as he allowed just two hits, but had five walks and struck out eight. Spencer Easland would allow a run in the top of the sixth as Huron extended the lead to 4-2. Jett Zabel would single home a run to make it 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth and with runners on second and third in two outs, Jonny Lyons hit a hard grounder and it went through the shortstop’s legs into left field scoring the go-ahead runs. Easland would get a 1-2-3 seventh inning to win the game and salvage a much needed split for Pierre.
The Eights are now 5-19 on the season and will face Rapid City Post 22 on Wednesday. Coverage will begin at 4:45 with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
