Civil Rights Advocate Connected To George Floyd Arrested In Gettysburg On Drug Charges

GETTYSBERG — A Gettysburg man is facing charges in Potter County following a possible overdose on methamphetamine. According to court documents on file in Potter County, authorities were called to the K and J Suites motel on June 10th for a possible overdose. The motel is operated by 57-year-old Selwyn Jones. Jones was found at the motel unresponsive with two methamphetamine pipes by his side according to an Affidavit for Warrentless Arrest. Jones is charged in Potter County with Possession of a Controlled Substance; Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Ingestion of an Intoxicant Other Than Alcohol. Jones was arrested and transported to the Hughes County Jail. Court documents indicate Jones was released on a person recognizance bond. Jones, is the uncle of George Floyd, the Minneapolis man who died while being arrested vy police in 2020. Jones also led an effort to get Gettysburg to remove Confederate Flag images from the city’s police department emblems and has been a civil rights advocate since Floyd’s death.
