Fort Pierre Asking Parade Traffic To Come Early, Stay Late

FORT PIERRE — Fort Pierre is preparing for one of it’s biggest holidays of the year, Independence Day. Mayor Gloria Hanson says a post-parade flyover from a B 1-B Lancer bomber based at Ellsworth Air Force Base has been confirmed…

Hanson says the Lancer will fly over Deadwood Street before leaving town. The flyover is part of Fort Pierre’s Come Early, Stay Late initiative to get parade goers specifically to try and avoid traffic jams..

Hanson estimates three-quarters of the parade attendees are from Pierre. She says nearly 20 businesses are stepping up to offer something to ease the dispersal of parade viewers…

Fort Pierre is also working with law enforcement on both sides of the river to help address parade traffic.
