Pierre Post 8 couldn’t break through in game one against Mitchell in a 4-3 loss, but would win game two 10-3 to pick up the first South Dakota win of the season.
In game one, Mitchell would score score on a two out infield single as Karter Sibson would drive in the game’s first run. Mason Herman would drive in two runs in the top of the fourth and Lincoln Bates an RBI single to give Mitchell a 4-0 lead. However, Cooper Terwilliger would go 2-3 in the game driving home all three runs including a two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to pull Pierre within one at 4-3. But Landon Soulek would get two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the save and the game one win for Post 18.
Terwilliger would get the start on the mound in game two and had plenty of run support to begin the game. Carter Sanderson would drive in the first run in the bottom of the first before Pierre would strike for five, two out runs in the bottom of the second. Matt Hanson had an RBI double, followed by another Sanderson RBI single, a Nolan Peterson RBI and a Matthew Coverdale RBI single. Terwilliger would allow two runs in the fourth, but escape a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth and then the Eights made Mitchell pay for not scoring in the inning. Jonny Lyons would double in his lone hit on the day even though he reached bases eight times between the two games. His double put Pierre up 7-2 and it was Terwilliger who would pick up his fourth and fifth RBI on a one out single before Spencer Easland drove in the final run for Pierre to give them a 10-2 lead. Easland finished the final two innings allowing just a run on three hits. Terwilliger earned the win on the mound surrendering four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings of work. Assistant coach River Iverson says Terwilliger was big on Monday…
Iverson hopes this first win will be a spark for more wins in South Dakota games…
