Dupree Man Sentenced On Federal Sexual Assault Charge

PIERRE — A Dupree man has been sentenced in federal court to three years in federal prison for having sexual contact with a victim incapable of giving consent. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 21 year-old Floyd Traversie will serve three years of probation following his release from prison. A federal grand jury indicted Traversie in July of 2021. He plead guilty to Sexual Contact with a Person Incapable of Consenting in March. He was sentenced last week. Ramsdell says Traversie had sexual contact with a 17 year-old female victim at a rural Ziebach County residence between June 15th and 30th of 2020. Ramsdell says the victim was not capable of understanding what was happening at the time and was unable to decline Traversie’s advances and Traversie knowing she could not say no. The F-B-I and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement investigated the case.
