The Oahe Zap would pick up its second win in its last three games and do so in dramatic fashion with a double play to end the game in its 3-2 win over the Hastings Sodbusters.
In the bottom of the first, after a lead off walk, both Cy Propst and Kyle Mermarian would each double with two outs to drive in the game’s first two runs. The 2-0 score would hold up until the top of the fifth when an unearned scored to cut the lead to 2-1, but it was a solid outing from Graham Young who went five innings allowing just the one unearned run on three hits, two walks and a strikeout. Memarian would then hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead back to two for the Zap as Brady Glenn came in relief for the Zap throwing the final four innings. He would give up a solo homer to Gage Franck in the seventh and with one out in the top of the ninth, the Sodbusters would hit three consecutive singles to load the bases. A fly ball to right to Preston Lau would be a caught and he would fire a strike home to gun down the would-be tying run to hold on to the 3-2 lead for the Zap and pick up the win.
The Zap improve to 3-15 on the season and will host Hastings two more games this weekend. Tonight and Saturday’s games will be at 6:35 from Hyde Stadium.
