Johnson Amendment To FAA Reauthorization Bill Saves Pierre, Other EAS Airports From Extra Fees For Program Participation

PIERRE — South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson helped amend a bill in Congress that could have cost Pierre and other Essential Air Service cities in South Dakota more than four-million dollars over the next ten years. The Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act would have charged extensive new fees to rural passenger airports for participation in the E-A-S program. Johnson passed an amendment protecting the most remote airports from the fees…

Johnson says aviation is an extension of that…

Johnson says he understands opposition to his amendment…

The Act reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration and it’s associated programs. If not amended by Johnson, the measure would have placed a five-percent funding burden on local and state governments enrolled in the E-A-S program.
