PIERRE — The Pierre City Commission is meeting tonight at the Pierre Municipal Building. Not much makes up the agenda for the Commission tonight. Only the consent calendar and an update on the U-S-S Pierre. The calendar includes approval of minutes from the June 6th meeting, claims and a new seasonal hire in the Park Department. Mayor Steve Harding will give an update on the U-S-S Pierre. Harding will be in Mobile, Alabama Friday for the keel laying of the ship known as L-C-S 38. L-C-S stands for littoral combat ship. The Pierre is the final L-C-S to be constructed for the U-S Navy. L-C-S 38 is an Independence-class vessel and will be the second ship named for South Dakota’s capital city. The first Pierre was PC-1141, a World War II submarine chaser. Back on shore, the Pierre City Commission will end it’s brief gathering by presenting any dialogue they may have. The Pierre City Commission meets tonight at 5:30 pm.
