State Trap Closes in Aberdeen on Sunday

The 2023 State Trap Tournament would culminate on Sunday in Aberdeen as many area athletes would take home some recognition.

On Friday in the skeet shoot, Wyatt Mortensen of Stanley County would win the male varsity shoot with a score of 99 while Colton Cass of Pierre would win the male JV shoot scoring a 90 overall. Mason Schwinler of Stanley County was tied for seventh and Cooper Hillmer of Pierre, ninth in the male novice shoot. Pierre’s Kaylee Blauert would place third in the female novice division and Megan Rose of Pierre was also sixth in female JV division.

In the trap shooting on Sunday in 2A Lyman’s Connor Samco placed second in the male JV shoot scoring a 91, three shots off the winner. Pierre’s Amber Roman would place third in the female varsity shoot scoring a 91 and only a point behind the varsity state champion. Sage Herman of Gettysburg would place tied for fourth in the male novice division while Robert Hamburger and Michael Oaks were eighth and ninth in 1A. In 2A, Wyatt Theilen would place fourth for Pierre in the male JV shoot while Jaxon Jungwirth would place ninth for the Govs in the male varsity ranks.

As a team, Pierre would place fourth overall scoring a 461, 22 shots behind Mitchell who claimed the 2A state title.
