Post 8 Falls to Capser, Post 22 on Sunday

Pierre Post 8 nearly stole a win away from Rapid City Post 22 on Sunday but in the end the Eights go 0-3 on the weekend and fall 11-3 to Casper and 9-8 to Post 22.

The Sunday morning game would give Casper an unearned run in the first inning and then after nearly ending the second inning on a double play, Casper would score five runs and take a 6-0 lead after two innings. Matt Hanson, Matthew Coverdale and Miles Doyle each had an RBI in the third to pull Pierre within 6-3, but it was Casper scoring the final five runs as only five runs were earned to pick up the win. Pierre outhit the Oilers 11-10 in the loss.

In the final game of the day, Pierre would take a 1-0 in the tip of the first as Jett Zabel scored on a wild pitch. Rapid City would go up 2-1 in the bottom of the first before Pierre in the third, would take the lead and not trail again until the final play. Ridge Leimbach and Coverdale drove in a run each in the third to give Pierre a 3-2 lead. Pierre extended the lead to four in the top of the fourth with a two RBI double by Carter Sanderson and Hanson driving in a run on a fielder’s choice. However, it was Post 22 tying the game with a four run inning, but Pierre reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Zabel and Leimbach doubling in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead. Post 22 would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth and use two errors including a ground ball bobbled to score the game winning run in the seventh to walk off the Eights. Pierre outhit their opponent again, this time 12-10.

Pierre drops to 0-10 on the season and will face Watertown and Rapid City Post 320 this week at home. Tuesday’s games against Watertown will have first pitch at 5:00 with coverage at 4:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
