Pierre Post 8 would allow too many free passes in both games on Thursday as the Brookings Bandits would beat the Eights 13-3 and 14-4 in a doubleheader sweep.
In game one, the Eights would walk 15 guys and hit another seven allowing 13 runs to score on just three hits by the Bandits. The combination of Hudson Allen, Miles Doyle, Matt Hanson and Matthew Coverdale kept the Bandits off the base paths without hits, but couldn’t get clean innings without allowing a couple of walks. Jett Zabel scored all three runs as Jonny Lyons would single in the third and an error by the left fielder allowed Zabel to score. Then he would come home and score on a wild pitch and also score after a double play.
In game two, the Eights put up more of a fight. Lyons would help spark Pierre by hitting a solo shot out to left to lead off the second inning. Lyons would also have an RBI double in the bottom of the third when Pierre would tie the game at 4-4. Matthew Brewer and Carter Sanderson each had an RBI in the game. However, after stranding the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth down 6-4, Pierre would give up an eight run inning to Brookings as the Bandits would take a 10 run lead and hold on for the win. Ridge Leimbach was tagged with the loss as Lyons also pitched in the game. The two only allowed six walks and two hit batters.
The Eights will look to turn the first two losses into two wins on Friday. Pierre will be in Renner to face the Royals. Coverage begins at 11:45 with first pitch at 12:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
