PIERRE — Just weeks after seeing slight improvement in drought conditions in west central South Dakota, dry conditions are creeping back in. This week’s update of the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota shows abnormally dry conditions back across parts of Ziebach, Haakon, Jackson, Jones and Stanley Counties. Much of southeast South Dakota remains in moderate drought. That area goes west into parts of Brule, southern Lyman, northern Tripp and southeast Mellette Counties. Two pockets of moderate drought remain in both the northwest and southwest parts of the state. An area of severe drought remains in southern Union County. The northern two tier of counties East River remain drought free as is much of western South Dakota.
