In all of the 11 seasons the Pierre Governors have had a high school baseball team, the start the 2023 team didn’t seem like it was going to be the one to break through for the first state championship. At 0-5 the Governors were nearly looking up at everybody in the standings. Then the Govs turned it on and won 14 straight games to win the title ending last Saturday at the Sioux Falls Stadium. Gray started the team in 2013 with Derk Campbell and Sam Koenecke as his assistant coaches. The Governor coaching staff in 2023 consisted of Gray, Ryan Krueger, Jared Fodness and Cody Sharrow.
