PIERRE — The Hughes County Commission has appointed Chief Deputy States Attorney Casey Jo Diebert to replace her boss, outgoing States Attorney Jessica LaMie. Commission vice chairman Randy Brown says interviews were held last week. Commissioners approved a roll-call selection of the new State’s Attorney between Deibert and Brian Murphy…
Murphy has been a deputy states attorney under LaMie since October of 2022 and handles largely juvenile cases in the office. Deibert has been a deputy in the office since December of 2021 handling misdemeanor cases. La Mie is taking a position in the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division. Hughes County Commissioners Friday also approved renewal of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.
