For the first time since 2018, the Pierre Governor baseball team is making its return trip to the state semifinals and, as the top seed, face the five seed Brandon Valley in the second semifinal on Saturday.
The Governors are two wins away from winning the state championship which would be the first ever in team history. The Governors have been in the state championship game before, but have never won the title. As they get set to play Brandon Valley in the second semifinal of the day, the Govs are have not lost a game to any of the three teams playing. Pierre would sweep Brandon Valley earlier in the year behind a 2-0 no hitter from Lincoln Kienholz and a comeback win in the second game. Pierre also beat Harrisburg in a single game late in the regular season, but have not played Jefferson this year. The 12 game winning streak looks to become 14 to close out the year with a title. Steve Gray, head coach of the Pierre Governors, says they’re ready to go…
Gray says what it will take to knock off Brandon Valley and then win the state championship…
Harrisburg and Jefferson will play the first game at 12:00 at Sioux Falls Stadium followed by Pierre and Brandon Valley at 2:30 and the championship game at 5:00. You can listen and watch the Pierre games on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
