PEIRRE — A Pierre man is arrested last weekend for breaking into a Pierre business. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says a commercial burglary alarm was activated on Saturday from a business in the 800 block of Wells Avenue around 4:30 am. Officers noticed a broken window upon arrival. An employee, preparing to open for the day was inside when police arrived. Walz says officers were able to identify the suspect from surveillance video at the store. Police followed a blood trail left from the suspect when he cut himself reaching inside to steal alcohol. That blood trail led officers to a nearby parking lot where the suspect was located and identified as 22 year-old Daryen Ley. As officers made contact with Ley, he attempted to flee. Ley ran a short distance away from officers before falling and being taken into custody. Ley is charged with Burglary, Petty Theft, Intentional Damage to Property, Obstructing an Officer and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
