Tonight marks the start of the Oahe Zap, the new collegiate baseball team in the Independence League. The Zap replace the now defunct Pierre Trappers.
In its second year, the Independence League adds to the team from Pierre and the total of participating teams in the league is now at six with another two teams on the schedule, but not involved in the standings. One of those two teams are in Pierre this week for the opening series. The Nebraska Prospects will be the first team to play the Zap in its inaugural game and season. Familiar teams return for a second season and names from years past in the Expedition League such as: Spearfish Sasquatch, Badlands Big Sticks, Fremont Moo and the Hastings Sodbusters. Jamy Habeger is back in Pierre once again. He served as the assistant coach in 2021 before becoming the head coach in 2022 of the Pierre Trappers and the first head coach of the Oahe Zap.
