The Pierre Governor softball team will play its first ever playoff game this evening as they travel to Sherman Park in Sioux Falls to face the O’Gorman Lady Knights.
It’s the 6-11 matchup as the Govs couldn’t quite jump another spot before the end of the season and had been sitting in the 11th spot for near two weeks. It’s a rematch from very early in the season as Pierre hosted O’Gorman on April 13. The Lady Knights won 19-6 in a 10-run rule game, however it was after a near two and a half week layoff from games as winter weather forced a lot of missed games and changed practice plans and schedules around. Now, the Govs have been able to stay on the field with games and practice and have been playing much better down the stretch of the season.
First pitch of the SoDak 16 is at 5:00 at Sherman Park. The winner will advance to the state tournament and face the winner of Brookings and Sturgis in the first round which will be Thursday through Saturday, June 1-3.
