Softball Splits Weekend to Finish Season

The first ever Pierre Governor softball season came to an end on Saturday and the postseason begins on Tuesday with the SoDak 16. The Governors split its final two games of the year.

On Friday, Pierre would defeat the Roosevelt Roughriders 15-3 in a five inning game thanks to a seven run second and a six run third. Kara Weiss and Jenna Bucholz would each triple while Kourtney Walti, Erin Leiferman and Sheridan Nickolas would each have double as Pierre had 12 hits in the game. Leiferman would pick up three RBIs and Noel Kist, Bucholz and Nickolas would each drive in two. Leiferman would go all five innings in the circle spreading out 10 hits allowing only three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

In the game on Saturday, the Washington Warriors would win 19-2, but used an 11 run inning in the sixth to separate themselves from the Govs. Bella Tafoya and Bucholz would each drive in the two runs for Pierre. The Govs had nine errors in the ballgame and the final eight runs in the top of the sixth were unearned to Kist. Emma Hall had a double for Pierre in the loss as they finish the season at 6-12 and are the 11 seed in the SoDak 16 and will travel to face O’Gorman on Tuesday.

First pitch of the SoDak 16 is at 5:00 from Sherman Park in Sioux Falls. The winner will advance to the state tournament, Thursday through Saturday, June 1-3.
