Governors Get Top Seed, Host Douglas, Brookings and Lincoln

Starting on May 1st, the initial release of the standings, the Pierre Governors found themselves in 13th place which would put them facing one of the region hosts in the first round. 16 days later, not only do the Governors get to be a host team, but also they’re the top seed in high school baseball.

The Governors finished the season on a 10 game winning streak, putting them at 10-5 to close out the season. After the final day of the season, Pierre was able to jump Yankton on seed point average thanks to Mitchell getting back to the .500 mark. But now the attention is on the playoffs. Pierre will take on Douglas, the 16 seed who is just 1-13 in South Dakota games and struggle to keep runs off the board. As long as Pierre takes care of business in the first round, the Govs will take on the winner of the Brookings and Lincoln matchup in the final game of the region and the right to play in the state semifinals next week Saturday. The Govs split its doubleheader on the road against Brookings, starting the 10 game winning streak while sweeping the Lincoln Patriots at home.

The Governors will play Douglas at 2:30 after Lincoln and Brookings play at 12:00. The Region Championship game will be at 5:00. Coverage of the Governors games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. You can see the full list of the Region Matchups below.
