Northrup Finishes Fourth, Governors Ninth to Conclude Class A State Tournament

The Pierre Governor Tennis team would finish in ninth place on Tuesday at the Class A State Tennis Tournament with Weston Northrup placing fourth and having the best finish of any flight for Pierre.

Northrup would go 0-2 in singles flight 6 to start the day, but played the top seed and number three seed in his two matches. In other singles flights, Devin Dodson would fall in the consolation championship match 10-5 in flight 1, but Carter Gordon in singles flight 5 would claim the consolation championship with a 10-7 win. Gordon would win a second consolation championship in doubles flight 2 as he and Jacob Leiferman would win 10-7 over Vermillion and then 10-6 over Spearfish in the consolation championship match. Doubles flight 1 with Dodson and Lucas Hight were eliminated in the fifth place semifinal match while doubles flight 3 of Northrup and Keller Herman were eliminated in the consolation semifinals.

The Governors scored a total of 112 points which was good for ninth in the team standings. Rapid City Christian would run away with the team title scoring 584, 160 points higher than second place Lennox.
