LaMie To Resign As Hughes County State’s Attorney

PIERRE — For the third time in five years Hughes County is on the search for a new state’s attorney. Jessica LaMie tendered her resignation to the Hughes County Commission Tuesday night…

LaMie will be joining the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office. LaMie took over as Hughes County States Attorney from Roxanne Hammond in November of 2022. She was Deputy States Attorney under Hammond from April of 2018 until taking over for Hammond. Meanwhile Hammond replaced Wendy Kloeppner as state’s attorney in 2017. Both Hammond and LaMie have background working for the Legislative Research Council before moving to the State’s Attorney’s Office as deputy state’s attorneys. The Hughes County Commission did not take action on appointing a replacement for LaMie. In a press release, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says LaMie will be a strong and experienced advocate for the public. Jackley says he is continuing to fill vacancies in the Attorney General’s office.
