The Pierre Governor baseball team would finish the season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of the Stevens Raiders 5-2 and 7-6 to end the season at 10-5 winning all 10 in a row.
In game one, Lincoln Kienholz would throw five no-hit innings and work into the sixth before Jonny Lyons would come on for the save as Kienholz would strike out 13 on three hits and gave up his first two earned runs of the season. Spencer Easland would have an RBI triple in the three run second inning for Pierre while Dawson Getz would give Pierre a 3-0 lead which proved to be the game winning RBI as he finished 2-3 in the game.
In the second game, Stevens would go for a five run top of the second and lead Pierre 6-1 before JJ Bucholz would come into the game and steady the ship for the Govs. Bucholz would finish the last five and 2/3 innings allowing just one hit with two walks and striking out four. The Govs battled back with runs in the bottom of the second, fifth and sixth. A run in the second and fifth would score on a wild pitch and passed ball before Kienholz would hit a no doubt home run to pull Pierre within two at 6-4. Getz would hit a ground ball to the left side with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, and the throw sailed into right field scoring both runs to tie the game. Cade Kaiser would steal third and George Stalley would hit a fly ball to centerfield for Kaiser to score and walk off the 10th win in a row for Pierre.
The Governors will await their fate when the season officially wraps up Tuesday and the brackets come out on Wednesday. Pierre will be hosting as a top four seed though. Games will be on Saturday with coverage on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
