Pierre Wraps up Regular Season Facing Mitchell, Stevens

With the win streak at eight and in the driver’s seat for a top four finish in the Class A standings, the Governors will face the Mitchell Kernels and Stevens Raiders on Friday and Sunday to close the regular season.

Tonight, Pierre will look to avenge the two losses to begin the season against the Kernels as Pierre was slow out of the gates, but since then the two teams have swapped momentum. Mitchell is just 6-9 since the doubleheader and at one point dropped seven of eight. The Kernels lost 3-0 to Roosevelt on Monday, but came back to beat Washington on Tuesday 6-5. Heading into the week Mitchell was ranked sixth, just one spot behind Pierre in the Class A standings.

Then on Sunday, the Stevens Raiders are trying to get above and stay above the .500 mark. They picked up a win on Wednesday over Rapid City Central to improve to 10-9 in South Dakota games, but four of those wins have come against the bottom two teams in the standings, Central and Douglas. However, the Raiders have wins against Brookings, Brandon Valley and Roosevelt so they are not the easy team like in years past. If the Governors can win all four games this weekend, it will all but guarantee Pierre a top four spot in the Class A standings and will be hosting one of the four regions next week Saturday.

First pitch of the doubleheader tonight is at 6:30 with the second game to follow. Sunday’s doubleheader will be at 1:00, all at Hyde Stadium. All four games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with coverage beginning at 6:15 tonight.
