Streak Reaches Eight as Governors Top Harrisburg

In a game played in Chamberlain on Wednesday, the Pierre Governor baseball team would extend its win streak to eight in a row with a 6-1 win over the Harrisburg Tigers, the top team in Class A.

Pierre would capitalize off of three walks and an error in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Jonny Lyons would drive in the second run with an RBI sacrifice fly. Then in the bottom of the fourth and a run already in, JJ Bucholz who came in relief of Jackson Edman, with the bases loaded, walked the tying run in. However, the runner didn’t touch home when coming in, and on the appeal was called out to an end the inning and keep the Govs in front 2-1. Jack Merkwan would be the dagger as he hit a two out RBI single in the next half inning to give Pierre a 3-1 lead. Merkwan would then triple in the seventh along with a Brecken Krueger RBI single before getting caught in a pickle scoring another run and Pierre would take a 6-1 lead into the seventh and complete its eighth straight win. Edman would pick up the win on the mound going three and 2/3 inning allowing just one run on just two hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Bucholz would earn the save in his three and 1/3 innings allowing only three hits and one walk and fanning five hitters.

The Governors will look for a ninth straight win when they take on the Mitchell Kernels on Friday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 6:30 at Hyde Stadium.
