It would be one high scoring game and one pitchers dual on Tuesday as the Pierre Governors would drop a 22-11 decision to Stevens and pick up a 4-3 win over Sturgis.
The Stevens Raiders scored multiple runs in each of the five innings in the first game of the day including a nine run fourth. Pierre would take a 1-0 lead at the end of the top of the first, but it would be answered by a two run bottom half of the inning. Pierre again tied the game at 5-5 heading into the third and would lead 9-8 going into the bottom of the fourth before the nine run inning. The Govs would score another two runs in the top of the fifth, but five runs scored to win the game by the 10-run rule for the Raiders. The Raiders would blast five home runs in the win as the Govs defense gave up seven unearned runs in the loss. Ireland Templeton, Jenna Bucholz and Emma Hall would each drive in two runs.
In the second game, Templeton would hit a go-ahead double in the top of the fifth to spring the Govs to a 3-2 lead which was followed by an RBI double from Bucholz to give the insurance run as the Govs would hold on for a 4-3 win over Sturgis. Sheridan Nickolas and Bella Tafoya would each have an RBI in the top of the second to open up a 2-0 lead for the Govs. Noel Kist would pick up the win in the circle going six and a third innings allowing three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts. Erin Leiferman would earn the save recording the last two outs in order.
Pierre is now at 5-9 on the season and will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend to face Jefferson and Lincoln with only four games remaining. First pitch on Friday is at 6:00 and Saturday at 2:00 with both games to be played at Sherman Park.
