The Pierre Governor softball team would beat the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday 4-3 and Rapid City Central Cobblers 11-5 before dropping both games on Saturday to Watertown and Jefferson.
Ely Broers would hit a walk-off single in the first game of the weekend as the Govs beat a sound Dakota Valley team 4-3 after the Panthers tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Kara Weiss would double and have two RBI in the win while Jenna Bucholz would score the other run for Pierre would led 2-0 after two and 3-1 heading into the seventh. Noel Kist would pick up the win going all seven innings allowing just one earned run on nine hits, three walks and striking out six.
Pierre would avenge its first loss of the season in the second game on Friday as they topped Rapid City Central 11-5. Weiss and Kist would each have two RBI while Bucholz and Broers would drive in a run. Broers would finish the day going 6-7 at the plate. Pierre opened up a 3-0 lead in the first before a seven run outburst in the second would be the distance they needed to pick up the win. Erin Leiferman would pick up the win working around 19 hits and one walk to allow only five runs to score.
The Govs would lose two games by the ten run rule on Saturday with a 13-2 loss to Watertown in the first game as Kist would drive in both runs with a two RBI double and then in the second game a 14-1 loss to Jefferson as Emma Hall would drive in Pierre’s only run.
Pierre is now 4-6 on the season and will travel to Rapid City on Tuesday to face both Stevens and Sturgis in a triangular. First pitch against Stevens is at 4:00 with the Sturgis game to follow at Parkview Softball Complex.
