Dakota News Now Reporter Austin Goss Arrested For Prank Phone Call Using Governor Kristi Noem’s Personal Number

PIERRE — A Pierre-based reporter for a Sioux Falls television station is facing a charge connected to a prank phone call he allegedly made spoofing the personal cell phone number of Governor Kristi Noem. An arrest warrant for Austin Goss was filed in Stanley County Wednesday. He was arrested and released on a personal recognizance bond Thursday. Goss is being charged with the Class One Misdemeanor charge of Making Threatening, Harassing or Misleading Contacts. Goss is accused of making the call in January through a website called PrankDial.com. Dakota News Now and KOTA Territory, Goss’ now former employer released a statement Thursday saying Goss had been terminated and removed a biography of Goss from the news stations website. The call took place on January 23rd, the same day Noem said her phone had been hacked. Goss is next scheduled to appear in Court in Fort Pierre on May 23rd. Goss moved to Pierre in 2020 to staff a Pierre Bureau for Dakota News Now, with a focus on political reporting.
