Fort Thompson Man Sentenced In Federal Court For Sexual Assault Of Child

PIERRE — A Fort Thompson man is sentenced this week to 13 years in federal prison on child sexual assault charges. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 22 year-old Carl Estes was sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contract with a Child on Monday. Estes was also ordered to serve five years of probation upon release from prison. Estes was indicted on the charge in September of 2021 and pleaded not guilty in January. Ramsdell says Estes was living with a girlfriend in Fort Thompson in the summer and spring of 2021 when the crime occurred. Estes was seen inappropriately touching the five year-old child of his girlfriend at the time. Estes admitted to investigators he abused the child which included a diagram he drew outlining how he assaulted the child. Estes was immediately placed in the custody of the U-S Marshal’s Service to begin his sentence.
