The Pierre Governor softball team has its first win in program history with a 4-3 walk off win on Thursday over the Mitchell Kernels.
Sheridan Nickolas had the walk off single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Governors to its first victory ever improving the Govs to 1-5 on the season. Jenna Bucholz hit a two run home run to give Pierre a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth immediately after Ireland Templeton tied the game with an RBI double. The Governors had 12 hits in the game with eight of the nine Governors recording at least one hit. Erin Leiferman went all seven innings in the circle as she gave up seven hits, two walks, had nine strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in the win.
The Governors will look for a quick second win when they host the Brookings Bobcats this afternoon. First pitch from Riggs High School Softball Field is scheduled for 4:00.
