Ground Breaking Held For New Airport Terminal In Chamberlain

CHAMBERLAIN — Officials in Chamberlain broke ground last week for a brand new terminal at the Chamberlain Municipal Airport. Lake Francis Case Development Corporation Director Mike Lauritsen says such an expansion has been in the works for awhile…

Lauritsen says one of the more frequent users of Chamberlain’s airport is Sanford Health and the local hospital…

Chamberlain received an 855-thousand dollar grant for the terminal, which is 80-percent of the project cost. Other funds come from the South Dakota Department of Transportation and the City of Chamberlain. Lauritsen says the F-A-A grant is jump starting Chamberlain’s plans..

The runway will be expanded from 43-hundred to 52-hundred feet, giving more space for private pheasant season traffic and agricultural spray plane operations. Construction on the new terminal is expected to begin in May with completion in the fall.
