Central South Dakota Mostly Abnormally Dry As No Drought Popping Up In Northeast South Dakota

PIERRE — For the first time in awhile, the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota is showing parts of the state in no drought. Northeast and north central counties are listed this week as being out of drought status. Drought has rolled back slightly in central South Dakota. Moderate drought in Lyman County has fallen from four-point-one percent to one-point-two percent with the rest of the county in abnormally dry status. Abnormally dry conditions make up the bulk of central South Dakota counties. Moderate drought has increased by two-percent in Brule County. Moderate drought in Jackson, Ziebach and Dewey County remain unchanged from last week at 49-percent; 23-percent and nine-percent respectively. Severe drought remains in Fall River and Custer Counties and across southern parts of Bon Homme and Union Counties. The area near North Sioux City in Union County remains in extreme drought.
