Pierre Baseball Swept by O’Gorman

The Pierre Governor baseball team surrendered too many walks in game one, too many errors in game two and would be swept by the O’Gorman Knights on Friday with losses at 10-7 and 10-4.

In game one, Pierre would take a quick 1-0 lead with an RBI infield single by Jonny Lyons, but the lead would quickly vanish on a two run homer in the bottom of the first by Sully Schlimgen. Schlimgen would drive in three runs in total in the game one win. George Stalley would tie the game back up in the top of second with a two out RBI single. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when a pop up in front of the plate with runners on first and second should have been called an infield fly, but the ball fell to the ground, and the throw to third soared into the outfield and all three runners scored and gave OG a 5-2 lead. Pierre would answer with a five run top of the fifth thanks to an RBI ground out from Jack Merkwan, singles from Cade Kaiser and Deegen Houska and a double from Ridge Leimbach. However, O’Gorman answered with a five run bottom of the fifth in part because of four walks in the inning.

In game two, a seven run bottom of the fifth would doom the Govs as six of the 10 runs were unearned in the game. Three errors in the inning cost the Govs six runs in the inning. Merkwan and Houska would drive in the only two runs of the game while the other two runs would score on two wild pitches. Leimbach was tagged with the loss giving up seven runs but only two of the runs earned on four hits, one walk and a strikeout. Pierre falls to 0-4 on the season while O’Gorman improves to 2-5.

Pierre will be back in the Sioux Falls area on Friday and Saturday facing Jefferson on Friday at Harmadon Park, then Harrisburg and Tea Area in Harrisburg on Saturday.
