Early Runs for Yankton Dooms Gov in Loss

Friday the Yankton Gazelles would waste no time scoring five runs in the first and another four in the second to cruise to a 14-3 victory in six innings over the Pierre Governor softball team.

Erin Leiferman gave up all 14 runs, but only seven were earned as Pierre had seven errors in the game, but Yankton did crack 12 hits and had six walks. Kara Weiss and Noel Kist each had an RBI while Khalan Smart doubled for the only extra base hit of the game for Pierre. Weiss and Kist drove in those runs in back-to-back plate appearances in the bottom of the second but it was already a 9-2 lead for the Gazelles. Camryn Koletzky would finish a triple shy of the cycle for Yankton including a lead off home run in the second inning and finishing the day with three RBIs. Yankton improves to 3-1 on the season while Pierre drops to 0-3.

Pierre will face Harrisburg and Brandon Valley on Friday in Harrisburg and in Brandon.
