Fort Pierre Businesses Meet With Officials On Waldron Bridge Traffic Impacts

PIERRE — The construction of a new John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge will impact access to businesses on the Fort Pierre side of the Missouri River. Business owners met recently with city officials and the state Transportation Department to discuss that impact. Fort Pierre Public Works Director Rick Hahn says crews will start work at the Yellowstone Street junction as soon as the weather breaks…

When that work starts, traffic over the current bridge will move to head-to-head traffic with both lanes using the eastbound side of the bridge. That could last until November…

Officials have also come up with a plan to direct emergency traffic over the bridge instead of using a detour over the Oahe Dam…

Hahn says there are no plans to address heavy traffic volume during the Fourth of July holiday and advised that drivers should come early and stay late to avoid traffic tie-up during the Independence Day Weekend and festivities.
