Judson to be Inducted into Track and Field Hall of Fame

Pierre’s Bob Judson will be one of seven coaches inducted in the South Dakota Cross Country Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Judson was a multi-sport athlete in high school excelling football, basketball and track and field as he earned 11 varsity letters in both high school and college. While Judson didn’t start out his teaching and coaching in Pierre, he had two different stops in the Capital City. In 1973, he returned to Pierre after a brief four year stint in Huron. He was a teaching and coach before retiring from teaching 1999 and coaching in 2014, a full 50 years of coaching. He was also the head basketball coach for Pierre from 1980-1991. Some of the honors for Coach Judson from the South Dakota High School Coaches Association is he was the boys assistant coach of the year in 1998 and boys basketball coach of the year in 1982. He was inducted into the SDHSCA Hall of Fame in 2000 and in the Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991. He’s part of the Huron College Athletic Hall of Fame being inducted in 2002, the Pierre Hall of Fame in 2014 as a coach and the Custer Hall of Fame as an athlete in 2018.

As a coach, Judson won the boys track and field state championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 while also leading the Governors to a basketball championship in 1982. He’s brought 15 different athletes hurdle championships and two different athletes a high jump state championship.

You can see a full list of the profiles for all seven recipients below. The awards ceremony presentation will take place Saturday, May 27 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, immediately prior to the team awards for the State Track & Field Championships. It will be approximately 1:30-2:00pm.
