Team South Dakota U16 Boys Win in Overtime, Girls Defeat Nashville

After an opening game loss in the tournament, both Team South Dakota U16 teams came back with a win on Friday. Team SD boys would win in overtime 2-1 while the girls would hang on for a 2-1 win.

In the boys game, Team South Dakota had to tie the game at 1-1 early in the third period with a goal from Brookings Jay Harris to help send the game into overtime. In the overtime period and as time was winding down, Oahe’s Jarron Beck was able to help assist Rushmore’s Cameron Ritter on the game winning goal in a wild, scrambling sequence to win the game and grab the extra point. Brookings Egan Jansen made 18 saves.

In the girls contest, Team South Dakota would take a 2-0 lead with goals from Aberdeen’s Rachel Siefken and Rushmore’s Paige Zimiga. While the Nashville, Jr. Predators would score a goal early on in the third period, Team SD’s defense shutout down any more chances from the Predators. Sioux Falls’ Eva Ramm would make 14 saves in net for South Dakota who are now 1-1.

Both teams can win and advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday, Team SD boys will play the Tri-City Eagles Blue at 2:00 on Saturday while the girls will face the Anaheim Lady Ducks at 2:55 today.
