PIERRE – At 10:50 AM Wednesday morning a fire would be reported and extinguished by the School Resource Officer Jacob Harlow at Georgia Morse Middle School according to Captain Bryan Walz of the Pierre Police department…
Smoke throughout the second floor of the building would lead to an evacuation of the school’s 700 students and staff. The Pierre Fire Department helped relieve the smoke from the building and assisted with the evacuation of the school. The school would close for the remainder of the day as the students were relocated to Lutheran Memorial Church and parents were able to pick up the students safely using the Pierre School District reunification plan.
The fire is under investigation as Walz says the fire appears to be intentionally set…
The middle school is scheduled to resume to be in session on Thursday.
