The Pierre Governor Track and Field Team will begin the season on Monday as they travel to Brookings for the Ruth Marske Invitational. The event begins the year for the Govs, but is an indoor event.
It’s one of two indoor event of the season for the Governors, but as the season begins, there is no worry of weather to keep the Govs from competing. Teams will be coming from Iowa and Minnesota along with schools from Class AA and A in South Dakota. Aberdeen Central, Brandon Valley, Brookings and Watertown will also be competing from the ESD to kick off the season.
For Pierre, Greg Starr had been the head coach for the Governors, but as he moved on at the end of last season, Donna Dowling takes over as the head coach of the girls team while Aaron Schone will be the head coach on the boys side.
Both field and track events will begin at 1:30 this afternoon. Pierre is scheduled to host the Bob Judson Invite next week Tuesday, April 4.
