Slow Start Leaves Sully Buttes Too Much to Make up in Loss

The Sully Buttes Charger girls couldn’t figure out a way around a box and one defense, and, as a result, got mired in turnovers and low scoring, and as a result, dropped their second game of the Girls State B tournament in Huron by the score of 48-37 against the Jones County Coyotes.

The Chargers trailed 26-10, and committed 12 turnovers in the first half, as the Coyotes methodically stopped the Charger guard play, and kept a lid on Sully Buttes’ leading scorers.

Meanwhile, Jones County got double digit scoring from their two senior stalwarts–Jadyn Jensen hit for 17, while fellow senior Mallory Valburg added ten points.

Sully Buttes was led in scoring by Lydia Hill, who finished with 17 points, the only Charger player in double digits.

Next up for 20-5 Chargers is a seventh place game against Howard, who fell 51-47 to Castlewood. The Warriors will face the Coyotes for the consolation title in the second game Saturday afternoon.
