Corps Of Engineers Holds Missouri River Runoff Update

PIERRE — Runoff into the Missouri River will remain below average even with plenty of snow waiting to melt into the basin. The runoff forecast now sits at 21-point-five million acre feet which is 84-percent of average according to Ryan Larsen with the U-S Army Corps of Engineers…

Larsen says while the runoff won’t do much to recharge the large Missouri River reservoirs it will likely recharge the soil…

Mike Swenson with the Corps says the large three reservoirs are still well below their normal staring points…

Currently, mountain snow pack is 104-percent of average while the plains snow pack is right at 100-percent of normal. The Corps of Engineers will hold public meetings in April including in Fort Pierre and Lower Brule on April 4th. Those will be held at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center and Golden Buffalo Convention Center.
