Stanley County Officials Working On Plan To Better Respond To Winter Storms

FORT PIERRE — In the aftermath of blizzards at the end of last year, officials in Stanley County are working through the Significant Weather Emergency Response and Rescue Plan. Hughes/Stanley County Emergency Manager Cathy Strudle says just agreeing on a plan doesn’t cut it anymore…

Stanley County Deputy Dustin Baxter says the plan is an evolving document with flexibility for those in it…

The plan runs through a command structure that has the Stanley County Sheriff’s office as the lead agency that will coordinate with local and state agencies. It includes three levels of response based on conditions and scenarios. While the current plan being considered by Stanley County and the City of Fort Pierre is based in winter weather, a similar plan focused on summer severe weather threats is also being considered.
